Fuduntu
is a Linux distribution forked from Fedora that uses GNOME 2 by
default, which provides rolling updates for the applications so you can
always have the latest Firefox, Chromium, VLC, GIMP, LibreOffice and so
on.
Fuduntu 2013.2, which has been released today, includes a new lightweight version called Fuduntu Lite,
especially useful for netbooks but not only, which doesn't include
applications such as GIMP, Thunderbird or LibreOffice by default and so
it requires 3-4 GB less hard drive space, depending on architecture.
The new release also comes with updated Mesa library which allows users to play more games, including Half Life and Counter Strike: Source, without installing proprietary drivers.
Updated packages in the latest Fuduntu 2013.2 release include:
- Linux Kernel 3.8.3-3;
- LIbreOffice 4.0.1.2;
- Chromium 25.0.1364.172;
- Firefox 19.0.2;
- Thunderbird 17.0.4;
- GIMP 2.8.4/
Also, XBMC Media Center has been added to the Fuduntu repositories.
The Fuduntu 2013.2 release announcement mentions that the team has grown and further more, a Fuduntu KDE spin should be available in the future.
The first thing you'll notice
when you log in to Fuduntu is a GNOME 2 panel at the top with a
classic-style menu and Cairo Dock at the bottom with some of the default
applications: Chromium, VLC, Pidgin and LibreOffice, as well as a
welcome screen that will help you get started with Fuduntu.
Other applications included by
default in the main edition: Nautilus elementary, Dropbox, Thunderbird,
Shotwell, GIMP, Shutter, Brasero, Cheese, Deja Dup, Gparted and around
15 games. You'll also be able to easily install popular software such as
Steam, Netflix and so on, from the Fuduntu repositories.
